Replace Comcast Digital Converter with a non-Comcast digital converter

Is it possible to replace a Comcast Digital Converter that I am currently using with my TV to a non-Comcast digital converter?  I know that Comcast has specifications for the Modems, but I haven't seen anything on Digital Converters.  Thanks.
