I've scheduled multiple shows to record and my DVR schedule says they are supposed to record, but after airing the shows aren't in my DVR queue. I've looked both on live schedule on my TV and online to schedule shows to record. Go through all the steps and get a message that they are scheduled but in the lineup of schedule recordings they are no where to be found.
I'm having the same issue; however, it records some shows but not all. The shows that aren't recording but are scheduled to record aren't playing at the same time as one another, and I've also reset my cable box multiple times.
You should be able to go to the "manage my dvr" menu then choose "dvr history" i think and then you can see every decision the dvr has made regarding your recordings to identify any conflict or priority problem. Some shows that are set to record "only new" episodes dont get the "new" tag and the dvr may not know its a new episode. The dvr history would list the date and time of the episode but would say something like "not recorded because the episode is a repeat" for instance.
Ok, so bottom line I had conflicts, but what I don't understand is why when I set up at recording there is no notification online or on my tv telling me there is a conflict or giving me a possible solution. Its frustrating that it lets you think you are recording shows when in actuality nothing is recording ugh! It makes me wonder why I'm paying for this unless service that doesn't work.
I'm having the same problem, it happened both yesterday 3/28 and today 3/29 with American Idol and Big Bang Theory. Scheduled to record, then didn't. I looked in history, and it said "recording cancelled by the system" in all cases. Looking further back, it appears that this is the message it gives when skipping a "repeat" episode.
Is Comcast/Xfinity having trouble labeling shows that are "new" as new episodes?
I think I figured out the reasoning. My dvr cancels all scheduled recording if I record remotely from my comcast app. If I don't record anything that day, whatever is scheduled will record. Annoying, but atleast I now know what's going on. Hopefully comcast can fix the bug.
I have a recurring recording set up for The View. It records every day that it is new. Today it did not record and I went to DVR history and it's not even showing there so I can't check why it didn't record.
I've lost recordings before but this is the first time there was no history for it.
Very weird. I've found more and more problems with Comcast DVR recording now than ever before.
I have The View on a recurring recording for years - it is #1 on my priority list. It did not record today AND
there is no history for it on the DVR history, nothing, nada like it never existed.
Unless after I left the house at 10 AM, the View changed to a rerun, I can't understand why this would happen. I don't want to keep having to unplug and replug my equipment and wait 3 hours for the guide to download. I pay over $200 a month for cable and internet. This is just ridiculous.
I get so frustrated! The show looks like it recorded when choosing to watch it but the screen goes black. I have even had times when I try to stop the recording and watch the show live but it locks up and won't let me watch it live. I had a tech come out and he put isolators on the dvr's in case they were talking to each other but that didn't help. He gave me his own personal number which I tried to call and it doesn't exist!
Same for me.. NOTHING at all has been set to record on a Mon. night forever on my DVR. So no conflict.. I set up a series recording for a brand new show.. so there are no repeats. It is all set correctly and the red light came on at the right time to show it was recording. I went to watch it around the end and it was not listed on my DVR list, yet the channel showed it was recording. I waited till it was done and then checked. Still nothing. Reset, still nothing and there is nothing in my history on it at all.
AARRGGHH! Ok, so I want to record a series on a premium channel and this program has a repeat schedule. At the time/date the program is "New" it conflicts with a program that does not have a repeat schedule. So, I want it to record the 1st program at a later time. Tried to get it to do that...selected "new and repeats" but it defaults to trying to record at the earlier time with the conflict. With other programs which have this issue, it seems to figure out to record at the later time...but not "Dexter"!! Guess that's why ya need such good On Demand with this system! I was with DISH forever and it was MUCH easier to set up the recording of this sort of situation...but their 'on demand' was pathetic. Still miss it tho.
I had a similar problem last night. Two shows. One 8-9pm and one 8:30-9pm. I happened to turn on the TV about 8:45. I saw the 8:30 show was not in the DVR queue. I looked at the live screen and saw the show with the red line completely (not partially) across reading 9pm at both ends (and To Be Announced). I hit "swap" and saw the same show with the same red line across the bottom reading 9pm at both ends - but this time also with the name of the show. I swapped back and forth several times. I only saw the show that did not record - not the one that did record. Later in the evening I checked DVR History but there was no entry for this missing show. Rest of the evening shows recorded normally. After recording everything last night, I unplugged and rebooted the box but....
I can't wait until Comcast Tivo comes to my area. Tivo isn't perfect but it's wonderful compared to this POS Motorola Box. At least I never had strange problems like this.
It's been rolled out in seven markets so far. Standalone Tivo's can be used on Comcast with a cable card to record shows but they can't access On Demand from Comcast. They can access On Demand from Netflix, Amazon and Hulu Plus. The Comcast Tivo will offer the Tivo interface plus the ability to access On Demand. If you buy a standalone Tivo now, when Comcast Tivo will be upgraded automatically so you can also watch Comcast On Demand.
Otherwise, the main difference is the Tivo interface, which is generally considered better than the one used on Comcast DVRs. You can go to Best Buy or another electronics store and check it out and see what you think. I had Tivo with DirecTV and FIOS before switching to Comcast. I got the DVR as part of my intro package but when that's up, I am definitely going back to Tivo.
You have to buy the Tivo box upfront and either a lifetime or monthly subscription. With a lifetime subscription, after about three years Tivo costs less (compared to three years' worth of Comcast DVR fees). Tivo does have some glitches but not as many as the Comcast boxes.
sounds interesting but is Tivo available all over. I live in a semi rural area and we are lucky to get Comcast only because we are an over 55 development and we had enough people say yes to them coming in and setting it up
Tivo works with Comcast. You get a Tivo box from Tivo or a reseller and a Tivo subscription from Tivo (see Tivo.com). From Comcast you get a cable card. When Comcast Tivo becomes available in your area, you get an automatic software update that lets you access Xfinity OnDemand programs. In the meantime, with a high-speed Internet connection, Tivo can access Netflix, Amazon and Hulu Plus.
Tivo with a cable card replaces your Comcast DVR and/or cable box.
If your box is being left on and there are 2 things recording at once, that could be your problem.
If left on, you are getting a message that you are there to interact with. If 2 tuners are recording, the tuner you are watching will ask you to change the channel. But the highlighted choice is to not change it. So the tuner never changes the channel. I have this issue right now and I created a thread about it but no responses have been given yet
the only time i get that message is if I'm watching a 3rd channel when the other 2 are about to start. It wants you to make a decision whether you are going to continue to watch the 3rd channel and cancel one of the recordings OR continue with your recordings and not watch anything but one of the two programs that is recording.
When that happens we usually just watch something we already have recorded on the DVr and let the 2 channels record properly.
Agreed. That message can also occur if you are watching one thing and recording another and the 2nd tuner needs to start recording a 2nd show because the first thing recording is still going (or annoying 1 min overlaps between two shows).
In any case, if you arent there to tell it to change channels (like if you walked away, eating dinner, left box on accidentally, etc), your 2nd show wont record. And in that circumstance, your DVR history will say 'not recorded due cancellation by user' or similar verbiage.
try deleting your series recording for "the View" and never putting it back on there - you will be better informed politically and keeping insanity like that off your DVR may very well get rid of the bug. Seriously though, I just got the X1 and no matter what I do, Series recordings will not show up in the guide and will not record. Tech Support says it is a known issue, they are working on it. For now, I just go to the Series Recording and easily bounce to the episode list and manually tag them to record individually. Not optimal, but I'll give Comcast a week or two - this DVR outshines the old Motorola even with the series bug.
I have shows set to schedule on "new episodes" only but none of the new shows are recording. I've reset my cable box and it still wont record. When I check my scheduled recordings, nothing shows up. I'm always getting "To Be Announced" on all my channels when I go to the guide. I starting to wonder if it's worth switching out of Comcast.
I can view all of my upcoming recordings properly online, but my DVR says "To Be Announced" when viewing the upcoming schedule. Last night, the box acted as if it was recording but nothing is saved. When trying to watch TV while it was "recording" I found it on channel 0 with nothing on screen. Odd that this seems to coincide with the HBO free weekend promotion. How about Comcast doesn't try to lure me into buying other stuff and make sure the stuff I pay for works? It’s a 2 tuner DVR, old technology, shouldn’t it be close to perfected at this point?
I am having the same issue! It started about 2 weeks ago. Nothing is scheduled anymore and when something does record it changes to Channel 0 and says it's recording 'To Be Announced' from 7p-7p. Has anyone solved this issue??
This happens all the time. The Dvr box is expensive. We should be able to tape anyshow with no problems. It makes me not want to keep the service anymore it so annoying. I also hate that a emergency broadcast test runs during the show your watching but not during the commercial time. That also makes me want to let the service go it too annoying. Cable is expensive not package that has all channels unless it runs in to hudres of dollars. If you just get one with two premium stations you have to buy a 1 or 2 year package, that you cannot renew for the same at experations. It still runs over $100. As many years as cable has been on the air, affordable complete package plans should exist by now. It gets worse and price go higher. Its not worth it anymore. Many friends do not watch TV or cable anymore that are over 55. They say it not worth the cost or hassel and I am feeling the same and I am under age 55..
A couple of weeks ago, I was checking for the Survivor finale and found that my Survivor series recording was gone. I chkecked further and all of my other CBS shows were gone from my recording list. The entire series recording. My best guess was that maybe one of the CBS HD channels had been deleted or changed by Comcast.
Last night I had checked my recordings for MasterChef that began last night. All looked fine. Then when I turned the TV on at 9, I saw that the show was not recording. I checked my recording list and MasterChef was no longer on the list. It's very frustrating!
I am not a Comcast employee or an expert just someone who like so many has had this problem. I noticed this issue in March 2013 when Comcast upgraded software from A28 to A30, this was also the time they added this feature where when you enter a channel number by the remote you also get the channel name that is you enter 02 and a black box at the top of the screen will say 02-ESPN. Comcast kept blaming my boxes or connection but I later have come to find out it is at the Comcast programming end as a result of this software upgrade I am also convinced that this upgrade although nice for the X1 and X2 people has affected so many of us on other platforms, so much for new technology that is suppose to make our lives easier
I have programs that I record daily as part of a scheduled recording series, they are not repeats or pre empted shows but each day it does not show that they are scheduled even though they have been scheduled to record daily. I have to double check to make sure the red dot indicator is present for the program I record on a daily basis, before then I chatted online, spoke on the phone, had three cable signals sent to reset my box, traded three boxes at my local cable office noting worked. It is now July 2013 and I still have the issues so many mention here.
Deleting the scheduled programs will not help, getting a replacement box will not help! Having Comcast send a reset signal will NOT HELP!!! This is a software issue not sure what Comcast Corporate is doing to resolve this issue agian no one from Comcast really comes to this forum, noting is mentioned on Comcast.com or Comcast.net all we can do is double check our scheduled recording and hope this gets resolved by Christmas.
Sorry to hear you have had so many problems over the years, as mentioned in my case I have only noticed it since March of this year with the software upgrade, I was told by a local supervisor that assisted in the exchage of my box ( second and third ones) that this was sort of a known issue and that it was being looked into. Since I record about three seperate news programs during the day to view later in the evening I always check and double check my scheduled recordings to make sure they are set, and each day I have to reprogram them as the recording disappear each and every day. I have recommended on several others post including here to check and double check all your scheduled recordings daily we should not have to do this but if we can not trust the Comcast DVR scheduled recording feature then we need to take actions into our own hands. Unfortunate.
Thank you Commanguy I have been replying to postings about this issue since March of this year when I first had the problem, as mentioned three reset singalsm three boxes exhanged and I still have the problem so each day I have to check my scheduled setting like so many, too bad it is three years later and more and more customers are having problems.
I don't use the priority or record series setting but have had many manually set recordings just disappear before the program airs. Other times I'll get recording scheduled that I haven't set often for programs and channels that I never watch. Resetting the box or even getting a new one doesn't prevent the issue.

There are some known issues and recently documented issues with manual DVR recordings and the most current version of the guide. Thanks for providing the detail so that the teams could attempt to reproduce.
The issues you raised (and a few others) have been documented and are resolved in the upcoming guide software and firmware release. We have plans to start delivering that update to some areas later this year with nationwide deployment in the first half of 2014.

I am still looking into the issue you reported about the skip ahead and skip back functionality. Is this issue with DVR playback or with On Demand?
According to that it could be well over year after the problems were first reported before I receive an update which will supposedly fix those issues.
Several times in that thread I stated I feel like I am being ripped off by Comcast since I am paying for something that does not work as it should be working. For what I pay each month there should be issues at all.
I have no doubt that an update will break something that previously worked, since that happens when Comcast updates anything. The A30 update broke things that used to work.

my X1 works flawlessly now, after a shaky first mopnth .. all series, all shows etc. And if I forget to set one, it shows up in the integrated list as On Demand, could not be simpler - unless it is one of the few shows that you can DVR but do not get released to On Demand .. there are some
I have thirty or so recordings, zero issues.
Thanks Comcast for fixing the initial bugs in the software/firmware or whatever - your promise was kept and the box is flawless
I only wish it had more capacity, but then again I can toggel to Standard Def for certain shows if I prefer
