Cable and Internet not working

I came back from vacation and both my internet and cable aren't working. When I turn on the cable box it immediately goes to BSTR then --:-- before turning off. My internet only shows a yellow flashing DS signal. Of course I've tried the hard reset on both and nothing's helped. The tech won't be able to come unti 5 days from now, which I think is ridiculous. Any advice?
