Has anyone being able to buy their own cable box and have it provisionby comcast. I bought a Motorola DCH 3416 after Comcast indicated that they will provision it but now they are saying that they will not set it up unless is from them. any suggestions on how to overcome this situation is greatly appreciated.

Comcast will not provision hardware that they don't own.  Even the HD TiVo has to have a Comcast owned cablecard installed in it.  Your only option with that box is to sell it to someone who lives in Canada since they are permitted to own their cable box.
