Moving - 2 account process

I am moving in a couple weeks - I scheduled the transfer with customer service and was given a new account number. Although I was told that the online My Account access would remain the same, I immediately got an e-mail suggesting I set up a new username in order to access the new account. But, it will not let me create a new username because my phone number is associated with a different account.

 

What's the actual process here? Should I be making a new username, or will the new account link to my current one? If I'm supposed to make a new username, why won't it let me?

 

I've had major problems with previous moves wherein the accounts "link" but it still reflects the old one and doesn't let me do anything, so I just want to get out ahead of it and make sure the transition goes smoothly. Thanks.
