ComcastJoe: WE NEED A RESPONSE TO THIS!!!

[ Edited ]

It was reported over a week ago in the topic I started concerning the new Users and Preferences pages.

HOW ARE PEOPLE SUPPOSED TO ENABLE OR DISABLE PERSONAL WEB PAGES SINCE THAT OPTION DISAPPEARED?

Someone started a thread in PWP today asking how to do it.

I sent you a pm asking that you read it and respond. If you don't know the answer I'm sure you know who to get it from.

I am not surprised there has been no response by someone at Comcast. As I say the wheels of just grind slow and the  wheels of Comcast grind slower.

Re: ComcastJoe: WE NEED A RESPONSE TO THIS!!!

Some say there is strength in numbers ... That's why I have made complaint to Comcast and entered a note in this large discussion.   I was VERY surprised to learn that the support people I contacted did NOT know of this problem.  In fact the first fellow very politely said "Sure, I can do that for you."  He tinkered about a while and then reported "There, try that."  I did, but nothing had changed.  Don't know what he did.  When I said there was NO change he sent me off to level 2.  I gave up after quite a long time as my ear was beginning to hurt from the extended phone usage.

The manager that authorized this change, secretly, in the middle of the night (or so it seems) would be straightaway fired if he worked for another company.  What a mammothly bad decision for the company.

I now worry for the web pages I currently have out there.  Does anyone know the direction that Comcast is about to take ?  If so, please let us all know.  Thanks.

Comcast is no longer supporting the PWP option, which is why the link is nowhere to be found on the homepage.  New customers do not have an option to enable it, and old customers that didn't enable it earlier don't have that option now, either.

You can try to press Comcast about it, which some have been successful with, but at some time in the future, and probably without comment, PWP could disappear completely.  This isn't new; we've been mentioning it here in the forums for over six months now.

Re: ComcastJoe: WE NEED A RESPONSE TO THIS!!!

I've lived thru mgt bad decisions ..really rotten decisions by mgt..  If comcast gets rid of PWP altogether, it woul be nice to announce that decision, give a drop dead date and allow customers time to react and do what is necessary.   Do you suppose they will do that or might this be another middle of the night, now you see it, now you don't, poof, gone, issue ??

We can always hope they'll give a warning, but given the track record, I can't answer that yes or no.  We've been encouraging people to look for viable alternatives and migrate to that.  You'll find  a wide range of options with a webhosting company that Comcast doesn't offer.

Re: ComcastJoe: WE NEED A RESPONSE TO THIS!!!

I too have been lookong about at different servers.   I do not wish to make the final decision too quickly.

Until then I'm going to use this work-around.   Not for everyone, for sure, but it will work for me, as I'd like to get this new section done.

The new and now forbidden web site would have been addressed like :

    http://home.comcast.net/~rmml/

I plan on making it subordinate to my personal web page.  The new URL will look like :

    http://home.comcast.net/~trefor.duane/rmm/

I can continue to develop it and it will be easy to unhook and move to a new ISP later on.

Crazy ?

Re: ComcastJoe: WE NEED A RESPONSE TO THIS!!!

I bump this topic. Come on Comcast this is outrageous. And now they control 40% of the internet in the united states? This is bad, and I need to use this to help me post my resume and get a job.
