what happened to "in private" browsing?

I used to be able to open a new tab and I would get a screen showing recently vivited web site. there was also a feature I think was called "In Private" where you could browse without having it on your history. When I open a tab now I just get the home page. Can anyone help me get that page back?

Which browser are you using?  They are all a bit different as to how you enable private browsing.
