wanna send a document to someone I can't bring it up as an attachment

I don't sent attachments very much at all, but after composing a one page letter,I was unable to bring it up by clicking on an attachment.  I was able to bring up a series of forms telling me to fill out a number of preferences such as : display name; e-mail address;e-mail server names such as POP3 or IMAP;and I'll need the names of both incoming and outgoing servers.  It further wants to know if I'll have to use both a user name and password when sending or receiving e=mail. Why all this when I'm just trying to send a letter?  Your help will very much be appreciated-Mike

I can't imagine what keys you hit to get all that, but what you are describing has to do with setting up your account in an email client.  I has nothing at all to do with attaching anything to an email.

Are you using a client like Outlook or Thunderbird?  Or are you using only the Comcast webmail?
