How do I configure my email so that the one I have read does not attach to my reply? There used to be a button
to allow me to do this

In the new email format, on the Inbox page click on the gear icon in the upper-right corner of the page, then on Settings.  On the landing page, under Compose you will see a box to insert the message being replied to.  Uncheck it.

Thanks, works like a charm.  My problem was that I couldn't see the gear,  it was covered by the Norton Bar.
