password lockout

password lockout

i did something stupid. Fell for the scam of Microsoft checking on errors on my computer. I was skeptical but curious. They changed my password. I didn't want to enter my password but they said it was necessary for them to leave my system but in fact it was so they could change it and lock me out. I'm only able to use the guest account now. Any suggestions?

If you are inclined to recover from this yourself, see http://forums.comcast.com/t5/Security-and-Anti-Virus/Where-to-Seek-Malware-Removal-Assistance/m-p/88...

Or you could have a reputable computer repair service do it for you.

Or backup the system as best you can, wipe the hard drive, then reinstall from DVD. Be sure to take extreme care that the drive is erased completely, and that you don't reinfect the computer when restoring the data you backed up!
