outgoing messages fail

All of the sudden I can not send email from my Iphone.   I can receive email from my comcast account but when I send I get Cannot Send Mail, The user name or password for SMTP.... is incorrect.

 

How is that possible?  I have not changed it and I can receive email?  ?

Sorry to hear that.  I changed all my passwords several times, but what seemed to do it was adding @comcast.net to my user name field

The exact message is:

 

The user name or password for "SMTP:rmccann99@smtp.comcast.net" is incorrect.

I would go through the password reset process on the xfinity website, and please choose a secure password, and possibly change your secure question.

thanks again for the rapid response.   I'll  try the reset and see if that resolves the issue.

Becoming increasingly frustrated with comcast.   I can not reset my password because no matter how many times I attempt, the form tells me the passwords do not match.   And do not even try to say I mistyped. Maybe once, but not every time. The form doesn't work.   I have been a Comcast customer for over 10 years.  Very disappointed.

 

Also, my Xfinitiy app on my Iphone, I press the pretty little Email button, to the left of DVR manager (button) and above TV Listings (button) and it takes me to Calendar.comcast.net?????   Nice.  Then I get a message, "Sorry private browsing mode is not supported yet......

 

Lovely, if you guys are trying to chase away customers, you're doing a great job.

After much googling of this exact issue,  this place solved my problem.

Users must go into their iPhone settings, access the “Mail, Contacts and Calendars” settings, click on the effected account, access that account’s settings, click on the “Outgoing Mail / SMTP Settings” and, in the first activated SMTP server (the first one that says “on” to the right, retype their password in the password field.

Users must also make sure that their full email address is listed in the username field.

Even if there is already a password in the password field, users must retype their password.

that was the key, putting my user name followed by .comcast.net - rekeyed the password and it works now.   Not sure why it failed to begin with but hey its working now.

We have had the same issue today. I found that using 587 for the port setting helped. Outgoing email is now operational, at least for the time being.

Just had to look up this old thread because I couldn't get outgoing mail to work on my new iphone6.  Did this trick again and now I've got outgoing mail.
