moving outside comcast service area

moving outside comcast service area

When moving to an area not serviced by Comcast (Time Warner area) will I be able to keep my comcast.net email address?

Re: moving outside comcast service area

Unfortunately no.  As with most ISPs, Comcast email is proprietary.  Once you are no longer a subscriber, you will lose access to the email account.  It is advisable to import your email and contacts to your Time Warner account BEFORE you terminate the Comcast service, if possible.  If not, then consider exporting your information to one of the big free email providers like Gmail, Yahoo or Outlook.com.  Another option would be to enable the Comcast account in a desktop email provider like Outlook, Thunderbird or Windows Live Mail.  That way your emails would at least be on your computer.

Re: moving outside comcast service area

Thank you.  I was afraid that would be the case and having had Comcast for email for over 20 years, there are lots of places where my email address has been stored as my contact information.  It will probably take me the rest of the time until we move to untangle that web, but thanks anyhow.

In the meantime, send out a notice to everyone in your address  book once you have a new email account.  Send it out several times if need be.  But I would advise not using the Time Warner account for your serious or long-term email action, or you might run into the same problem down the road if you ever change ISPs again for any reason.

FWIW, Time Warner also has Help and Support forums.  But, IMHO, they aren't as good as the Comcast forums.  Their OE's rarely answer questions - they just refer people off to other places.
