I sent an email to a contact who’s email address is not longer valid. I get an email back saying:
This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification.
Delivery to the following recipients was aborted after 64.0 hour(s):
*XXXXXXX@XXXX.net (the invalid email)
Reason: Temporary Failure
How do I stop this from auto sending?
"Delivery aborted" is usually the final message. If further delivery attempts were going to be made, the message would typically say "delivery still underway" or similar.
All 5 of the returning emails said aborted. Starting with the 1st, aborted after 6.6 hrs, 2nd after 9.9 hrs, 3rd after 14.7 hrs, 4th after 39.9 hrs and the last after 64.0. Do you know of a way to stop the emailing from sending after the first abort? After 6.6 hrs of sending which is eccessive for my needs I would appreciate the ability to stop the email from further sending.
My question is do I have control over this?

Internet email standards call for mail servers to behave this way. I know of no provision for users to select the retry intervals.
