file attachment box greyed out

SOMETIMES, when I attach a file to an email message, the box where the name of the attached file is ordinarily displayed, becomes greyed out.  After I have sent the message, then I find that when I look in the Sent folder, the file name does appear as an attachment to the sent message.


Why does this happen?


What can I do to ensure that I consistently see the name of the attached file displayed on the draft of the message as I compose it?
