how can i tell if a sent email is read by the recipeient

You cannot if using Xfinity Connect.  You CAN using most other email programs such as Windows Live Mail, Gmail, Thunderbird, a Outlook.

 

Know that even if you set up to ask for a receipt, it still remains up to the recepient if they want the receipt sent or not.

Do you use XfinityConnect? The Full or Lite version?
Do you use an email client? Which one? (Eg; Windows Live mail, Outlook, a smartphone etc.)
Which browser/version do you use? And- have you cleared your browser cache?
Which operating system? XP, Vista, Windows 7, Mac OS X
