email server offline

email server offline

I can receive email, but I cannot send email on my mac. I do have internet connection. I get a message that my outgoing mail server (SMTP) is offline. Everything with my iphone and ipad email is fine.

Re: email server offline

Exact same thing is happening to me.  It started this morning and still isn't fixed.  I'm looking for something from Comcast that will address this problem.

Hi krebert,

This is a known issue with Apple.  It is being caused by a back-end issue with the default SMTP ports for outgoing mail.  For the best support, I would suggest contacting Apple or taking a look at their forums.

Thank you!

Re: email server offline

I've checked Apple forums. Nothing there. I am not convinced it is an Apple or MAC problem. I've never had this problem before. Also,
multiple Comcast users started having this problem all of a sudden today.

Can you post your settings so we can review?  Did it work previously?

krebert:

I see what I believe to be your IP (XXXXX) connecting to both port 465 and 587.  I'd say double-check your client configuration, make sure your username and password don't have any leading or trailing spaces.

Are you overseas this week?  Several non-US IP addresses are trying to send as your account.   It's possible your account was compromised.  Try calling the Customer Security Assurance Department at (888) 565-4329 for help with resetting your password, if this doesn't work for you:

Re: email server offline

No

There is a BIG problem with Comcast email that has been ongoing for 2 days

Sad that Comcast's response is to ignore it

Re: email server offline

Everything worked fine until yesterday. I read through some forums here and followed directions to use port 465 or 587. That is the only thing I changed but it didn't help. Today when I checked that setting again the port had changed to 110. I'm not very tech savvy so I didn't mess with anything else

Re: email server offline

I am having the same concern.  How do I get the email "onLine?" Is Comcast aware....or care?

Re: email server offline

I just noticed that if I log into my email via comcast's site, everything is fine. I guess the issue is with the email shortcut on my dashboard. I'll contact apple

My email has been showing 'offline' for 2 days on just my iMac-iPhone works great.  How did you get your problem solved?

Re: email server offline

It is NOT an Apple problem.  Mine works perfectly on 10.6 but my wife has had the issue with it on 10.10 with exactly the same settings.  We have multiple Comcast email accounts and only hers is an issue.  All our other accounts work fine, when I tried to add hers to my computer it gave me the same problem, while all the other accounts are normal.  This has to be a Comcast issue and I am completely frustrated with this.

Same problem.. started Wednesday morning, July 1st.

Re: email server offline

I see other threads in this forum that new certificates were issues for smtp.comcast.net.  Maybe this is related? There seem to be numerous posts and instructions if you are using Eudora, but none for Apple.

Try going into Mail.app's preferences, deleting, and them readding smtp.comcast.net

Preferences/Accounts/Outgoing SMTP Server/Edit SMTP Server List

"Use default ports" enabled

"Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)" enabled

Authentication:  Password

Username is your comcast email address
