email problems

I am using the built-in Galaxy Note 4 email app (and an app called K-9 Mail) without problems for a couple of years.  Suddenly I cannot SEND email or reply to emails sent to me..... all outgoing messages just sit in my OUTBOX.  After re-entering my incoming and outgoing SMTP settings (I use the settings provided to me by Comcast) a dialog box pops up indicating the server does not support authentication (and some other popup messages indicating too many attempts, etc). My Gmail wortks fine.   To complicate issues, AT&T sent out a system upgrade a couple of weeks ago and this problem was only occasionally happening.  What to do?
