deleting multiple emails

I know how to delete one email but I used to be able to select a group of emails (such as notices from one vendor or all emails from a certain person). I am sure there is a way to do it but have not been able to figure it out == "Help" is no help on this

Run a search from the box above the message list for the person whose emails you want to delete to bring them all up, and then check the little box at the top of the list to select them all.  Then click on Delete in the toolbar.
