I'm temporarily staying w my daughter who has Xfinity. Using Outlook 2010 w Win 7. My email ISP is compuserve.
I can access all internet servies here such as browsing and inbound email but cannot get my Outbound email to connect. I've changed the outgoing smtp to smtp.comcast.net but this has no effect. What else am i supposed to do? ty
I've now visited https://www.xfinity.com/support/internet/email-client-programs-with-xfinity-email/ and changed some additional settings.
During the followup test for smtp.comcast.net it wants me to change the username and password. Does this mean all my outgoing emails will have my daughter's name and email address instead of mine? TIA
Can you clarify--------are you trying to set up a Comcast email account in Outlook, or one with @compuserve as the domain?
ty
just trying to pass through the comcast servers. I've used compuserver as my email ISP for 25+ years. I send and receive email through that same account for the whole time. Using POP3 with Outlook 2010 as my email client.
When using Spectrum I has no problem using pop.compuserve.com and smtp.compuserve.com with my username and compuserve password.
Spoke w Comcast tech support and we switched various port numbers from compuserve's 25 to 465 and 587 and switched SSL and TLS? Nothing worked. Also used my daughter's username and password. no luck. Next step is to try compuserve tech support.
Not sure why i cannot use my same credentials as before and just pass through comcast servers?
error message says "Send test .... : Outlook cannot connect to your outgoing SMTP email server. " TIA
Though i didn't think this was a compuserve issue, it did turn out to be one. Not sure why changing the setting on the compuserve side would effect the email going through the comcast server but it did. thanks for your help.
