Unable to export .csv file to Xfinity Address Book

Unable to export .csv file to Xfinity Address Book

When I try to export my Outlook .csv file to the address book, I get a "Please specify a valid file" error. (strike one)

I also tried downloading and using the Xfinity add-in app for Outlook. It installed OK, but it asks for my Comcast account name and password before it will proceed with an export. Then it tells me that my password is invalid even after I've carefully re-entered it a half-dozen times. (strike two)

I then tried Plaxo.com using my Comcast credentials, but they demand that I upgrade to a "premium" account before they'll let me export my contacts. The upgrade requires personal info that I don't feel like giving to a third-party website. (strike three)

By way of contrast, I had no problem exporting the same .csv file to my gmail account. In fact, the export window is the same one that Comcast uses!

This is not a new problem; I've found year-old threads on this forum from people looking for a solution. What gives, Comcast?

Re: Unable to export .csv file to Xfinity Address Book

I have never seen any prompt to get a premiun account signing into the Plaxo address book at their website.  Once you get to their landing page, you click on the Address Book icon  at the top of the page, then click on the gear icon, and then on Import.  I just tried it-------works just fine.  At no point was I prompted to upgrade to a paid account.  You are the second or third person I've seen posting about this recently.  I have no idea what you are looking at.

Re: Unable to export .csv file to Xfinity Address Book

Charging for Outlook synchronization service

On July 30, 2009, the previously-free synchronization services for Outlook moved to Plaxo's premium (paid) service. According to Plaxo, "this change will allow us to continue to invest in the development and support of this valuable (but high-cost) feature." Existing users of the free service were offered a 20% lifetime discount on Plaxo premium. This paid service is now called Platinum Sync.

I found this on Wikipedia. Sounds like Comcast is trying to extract a few more bucks from their hapless customers via their Plaxo website.

If that's the case, then Plaxo suxo.

Re: Unable to export .csv file to Xfinity Address Book

I'm using Outlook 2007 and have no problems importing an Outlook .csv file to Xfinity Connect webmail address book.  There shouldn't be a need to go to Plaxo.

MY steps (YMMV):

Open Outlook

Open Contacts

File Import and Export

Export to a file

Comma Separated Values (Windows)

Select folder to export from

Save exported file as [select the directory you want to save the file in]

Xfinity Connect Address book

Build your address book

Import

CSV Import

Select .csv file to import [navigate to where you saved your file]

Click on Upload

Your address book should populate.

Re: Unable to export .csv file to Xfinity Address Book

I already stated that I have tried uploading a .csv file created in Outlook to the Xfinity Address Book.

This is the result when I click on "Upload":   --Please specify a valid file--

It's the exact same .csv file I used to successfully export my contacts to gmail.

But I'm delighted to hear that it works for you. Congratulations!

And you did select the file, correct?

Re: Unable to export .csv file to Xfinity Address Book

Yes, I selected the file.

I have followed the same procedure that you posted many times during the last week.

Xfinity Connect Address book

Build your address book

Import

CSV Import

Select .csv file to import [navigate to where you saved your file]

Click on Upload

Just tried it again a few minutes ago with the same resulting error:

Please specify a valid file

The "Xfinity Connect E-mail application" doesn't work either.

Re: Unable to export .csv file to Xfinity Address Book

You might want to call Comcast's CSA (Customer Security Assurance). They may be able to help you with some troubleshooting. Their phone number is (888) 565-4329.

The only other thing I could suggest is doing a new clean export out of Gmail and trying to get the file into Xfinity Connect that way, if you haven't already tried that.  I don't think this is really a Plaxo problem.
