SMTP Account Failed (cannot send email)

SMTP Account Failed (cannot send email)

I am unable to send emails from my Comcast account.  The outgoing server is offline. The error message reads: 'Trying to log in to this comcast.net SMTP account failed. Verify that the username and password are correct.'

 

I have verified that both the username and password are correct. I am on a Mac running Yosemite, using Apple's Mail application. Please advise.  Are the Comcast email servers down or experiencing trouble?

Comcast CS had me change outgoing server to 587.  I am now functioning again.

Thanks for the response - yes, I've been using port 587. After looking into it some more, I discovered that my password connected to the smtp authentication had somehow changed in my email client.  Go figure!  I have absolutely no idea how that happened. Anyway, I corrected it and I'm back in business.
