SECURITY CERTIFICATE

From whom or from what do I obtain a Security Certificate?  I have be operating computers since the early 1980s and have never heard of a "Sercurity Certificate".  Why do I need one now and from who do I obtain one?

Re: SECURITY CERTIFICATE

You probably don't need a Security Certificate. They're used by secure SSL ("https://") websites, secure (SSL/TLS) email and other services to establish encrypted connections.See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_key_certificate

Users don't usually need their own, they get a copy of the one the server is using when their applications connect.
