Re: New Comcast IMAP servers and email settings

My Comcast email stopped working 3 days ago.  From reading this forum, apparently I am supposed to sign up for something?  Anyway, it started as a password problem.  I changed my password.  It worked on my iPhone for half a day and a full day on my iPad.  This morning my iPad said my password was wrong. Again.

ANd on my iMac, my comcast doesn't work at all period.  I mean, it won't even acknoweldge the password!  OMG.  Total PITA!

I checked the settings posted at the very top and mine match on my iPhone 5.  However, I do not see the alternate outgoing port thing!  What the heck?!?

I'm moving your post to it's own thread because the one you answered is older, and when it was started IMAP for Comcast was still in beta.  And at that time you had to sign up to be a tester to use the program.  It's no longer necessary.  Comcast is now IMAP compliant by default.  I will try to help you in the next post.

Re: New Comcast IMAP servers and email settings

@DMS2015-----------

You still need to change the password in two places in both iOS and OS X.  Once for the incoming server, and again for the outgoing smtp server.  For iOS it's pretty straightforward;

To change the password for the smtp server in iOS, from your home screen go to Settings>>>>Mail, Contacts, Calendar.  Then tap on the Comcast account, and then  Account.  Scroll down to SMTP, and then tap smtpcomcast.net, and finally Password.

With OS X it get more involved.  Especially if you are using Mail 8.2 (I am running Yosemite on my iMac). If you are running an older version of Mail the proceedure is a little different, but here it is for 8.2;

Open Mail.app.

Go to Mail > Preferences

Click Accounts > Account Information

Under Account Information look for Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP).

Click on the drop down arrow and select Edit Server List...

Select the existing SMTP server for your domain.

Click Advanced

From the Authentication drop down, select Password

Fill in your Username (e.g. john@example.com) and Password

Click the Test Account Settings button to set the new settings.

They sure didn't go out of their way to make it easy, did they?

Re: New Comcast IMAP servers and email settings

actually this didn't solve the problem.  I had to Google apple and find out their protocol that they apparently changed that Comcast didn't have.  I had changed passwords everywhere and once I loaded the new settings from Apple, everything worked.  of course it would have been Really NICE to know that Apple changed their protocols and it would have been even NICER if Comcast actually had them - all they had to do was Google.

Yes -- Please could you share the Apple settings magic - for iPAD?  I've done the two passwords.  I receive mail, but cannot send mail.

I'm running 9.2.1(13D15)

Thanks for sharing.
