Mail - POP to IMAP acct.

New Poster

Mail - POP to IMAP acct.

I didn't get any notice that my POP account was changing to IMAP. When it did, I lost all the emails in my Inbox. A Comcast chat person said they're not on the server. I have deleted the IMAP account and tried to add the POP account back but I can't set the account type. I use Mac Mail.

Re: Mail - POP to IMAP acct.

Just saw advice to trick Mac Mail into adding a POP acct. I did it and me emails didn't come back.

Do the emails still appear in the Comcast webmail UI when you access it with your browser?  If so, thy are not gone, they are still on the server.  Post back if you need further information.

No, they're gone from there too.

OK then you need to call Comcast security and see if they can retrieve them.  If this just happened they should be able to--------------------

Re: Mail - POP to IMAP acct.

I've had talks with customer service and a supervisor and everyone's been friendly and apologetic but it seems my emails are lost forever. Big hassle, but I'll survive. The frustrating thing is, if I'd been notified my account was changing, the issue could have been avoided, but I didn't receive any notification. Of course it's possible I just missed it but I don't think I would have. Thanks for attempts to help.

Re: Mail - POP to IMAP acct.

OK this is a little confusing.  Comcast didn't change your account from POP3 to IMAP.  Only you have that ability in whatever client program you are using, or if you are using the account on a mobile device.  If you were using a desktop cient like Outlook, Thunderbird or Windows Live Mail, and using POP3, the default behavior is that it will download the emails to the computer, and then delete them from the server.  When you use IMAP, the client will "see" everything in the account, including local folders.  Everything is synced.
