Inbox Alphabetical Sort?

Inbox Alphabetical Sort?

Although there is a pull-down option to sort the Inbox by "From," it only does so partially, or it is by some set of rules that isn't necessarily alphabetically. How do I sort the Inbox by "From" alphabetically?

Re: Inbox Alphabetical Sort?

In the list of sorting criteria, make sure you have Conversations unchecked.  Also, some people have reported that it is sorting alphabetically by email address instead of by name.

You can't, thanks to an amazingly dumb design decision by the authors of the new "Appsuite" webmail .

Most email "From:" lines contain two pieces of information: a name and an address. These do not need to be the same. Example:

     From: AEP Energy <surveys@aepenergy.com>

You would think that, sorting on "From", an email from "AEP Energy" would appear at the beginning of the list. But as noted, Comcast's new webmail uses the boneheaded method of sorting on the email address but displaying the email name. As a result, this message from "surveys@aepenergy.com" is grouped with other email addresses that start with "S" instead of with names that start with "A". But the address is not displayed, the name is.

If the name and the address are both present, they should sort on and display the name -- that's how the previous webmail worked, along with every other email system I've ever seen. Only if the name is missing should they sort on and display the email address.

Nothing you can do about it except complain and insist that they fix it.
