Having lots of problems with Comcast

Having lots of problems with Comcast

I am having lots of problems with Comcast email and El Capitan on a Mac.

Have downloaded every update to keep it current (it is 6 years old )

Emails---last week, could not receive any

This week, any emails to be sent go into the outbox and just stay there.

Also, using Comcast.net, am getting the beachball very often.

I have a new MacBook air I got at Christmas, and it doesn't have many apps on; but now it, also

has the beachball showing up a lot. However, when I try to print from there, it shows printed not connected,

even though I go in and print from the Mac fine. And it shows my printer..

MacBook air is connected to the Mac....

Have powered down the Mac, unplugged it, cleaned the disk......

Any ideas??

I am not a newbie----have had PC's & Macs since 1994.....and usualy can fix any problems.

Connections are programmed correctly.

 Would appreciate any help--thank you!

Re: Having lots of problems with Comcast

My iMac is almost 7 years old, and I'm seeing some of the same beachball effect.  I find that if I clear out my browser's cache/browsing history it's OK for a while.  I use Chrome most of the time and it seems like it's getting more and more sensitive lately.  I use Mac Mail too.  Can you access the email normally just using the webmail UI?

Re: Having lots of problems with Comcast

Thank you for your reply.

I have cleaned caches, cookies, history, etc.

That did not help, however.

Both iMac and MacBook air show news from a few days go,

every now & then is does show current news, but goes back

to the old stuff again.

I get my emails from comcast, not Mac email.

I do get them, but can not forward any..just stays in outbox.

Could you verify your outbound settings with us?  (omit your username and password)

Can you use the Mac Terminal to attempt a telnet session to smtp.comcast.net on port 587 or 465?

Have you recently installed/updated any firewall program?
