Emails suddenly disappeared

I watched helplessless as every email and important attachment suddenly disappeared from my inbox. All my sister's wedding pictures - gone. All correspondence - gone.  The minute I opened my mail, it was all there and before I could open anything, everything disappeared. I then logged into my email account on the website and everything is gone from there as well. I've checked all the folders and nothing was transfered in error. I reported it and was told I would hear from Comcast in the next 24-48 hours, but I have a feeling I'll be tolld that if I had called immediately, they could have been recovered. I did call immediately. How does this happen when I haven't touched the settings? Could my missing mail and attachments be hiding in a folder on my Mac?

Re: Emails suddenly disappeared

Check your deletion schedules to make sure they are set the way you want them. From the Inbox page, go to Preferences>>>>Email, and look about halfway down the list to "Email Deletion Schedules". If it's not that, then as a precaution I would change your password to something stronger than whatever it is right now, and also change your secret question and answer. Suddenly vanishing emails is a common sign of a malware infection, or a compromised account. Run a complete scan of your machine with your A/V software to see if it finds anything wrong.

Also, do you have another device like a smartphone or tablet with the account enabled on it? If so it may be downloading and then deleting the messages from the server. Check all the settings in it to see if that's what's going on.
