Connectivity to Internet for the Toshiba Chromebook2

Just bought a Toshiba Chromebook 2  model CB35-b3340 and trying to get internet connectivity using xfinity  ethernet cable and using the Toshiba usb ethernet adaptor.

The chromebook 2 indicates that there Ethernet is connected. connection status is connected but it is asking me for ip address, sub maks and gateway as well as proxy information for this ethernet connection.

I do not have awireless network just 2 pc's ones running windows 7 and a new one running Chrome.

The one running windows 7 runs fine and I use the ethernet slot that is present in the notebook.

For the Chromebook 2 I had to purchase the Toshiba USB Ethernet Adaptor since they indicated it would work.  When I try to access any of the web sites it indicates there is no connect.

Any assistance is appreciated.

Thanks
