Comcast email - can we keep if we leave Comcast

Comcast email - can we keep if we leave Comcast

If a customer leaves Comcast as an ISP, can they still use the comcast email address they have been using? I heard that Century Link is telling potential customers that if they move to Century Link/Direct TV combo, then even though the ISP is no longer Comcast, they can keep their email addresses. Seems odd to me.

No.  When you leave Comcast you will lose access to the email.  If you are moving to another ISP then you need to make arrangements to migrate your email to some other provider like Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook.com or some other.  When you sign up for the new ISP they should have a way to migrate your Inbox and contacts to their email from Comcast, as long as the Comcast account is still in service.  So the bottom line is you have to take action before you cancel the Comcast account.

Thank you for your quick response. I had a feeling this was the case. This means that Century Link "misled" us, either deliberately or accidently about the option of keeping it. So, as is often the case, when something just doesn't sound quite right, or really make sense, I'm compelled to check it out! Thanks again. Jan

I doubt you were deliberately misled.  The Century Link rep you talked to probably thought they knew about Comcast email when they didn't.  You'd be surprised (or maybe not) at how many Comcast phone reps are clueless about how to use their own email system because they don't use it themselves.  Although as you now know this is nothing peculiar to Comcast.  Most ISPs have proprietary email, and when you cancel their service you lose access to the email account.  There are some notable exceptions like AT&T and a couple of others.  But the AT&T accounts are actually Yahoo accounts under the hood.  Some Verizon accounts are too.

Just sayin
