Changed user name - a mistake

Changed user name - a mistake

I changed my user name, not knowing that this also wiped out my email address.

Support said it is a level 2 issue and may take days to get help

Re: Changed user name - a mistake

When you change the user ID or cancel service, the ID is suspended for 90 days, and then released into the pool of available IDs for any other Comcast customer that wants it.  You can call Comcast security to see if they can reinstate it, but no guarantees-------------------

Re: Changed user name - a mistake

I am on the phone now.  The L2 specialist is saying my email address has never existed.  I have been using it for 10 years!

Re: Changed user name - a mistake

If they can't do anything for you, then at the end of the 90 day period you should be able to reclaim it by using it to set up a secondary account.  As long as no one else beats you to it.  I actually did this for an experiment and it worked. I created a secondary account, used it for a few days, and then deleted it.  92 days later I was able to use it to set up another secondary account.  While the account is suspended, it's still running in the background.  You just can't see it or get at it.  I had also enabled that account in Mac Mail, and for the whole 90 days I was able to send and recieve messages from there.  But I couldn't sign into the webmail UI.

Re: Changed user name - a mistake

Thanks for your help and suggestions.

The support specialist set me up with my old email address - but as a new account.  All mails gone.

I have the mails in the account I accidentally created this morning.  Forwarding the important ones.

Luckily I keep my email to about 200, including saved and archived

Suggestion----------if you use your Comcast email for anything important, enable it in a desktop email client like Outlook, Windows Live Mail or something like that.  That way if the account ever gets compromised you will have your messages in the client.  There are a lot of other advantages to using a client too.
