Apple Mail 9.2 doesn't work after I changed my Comcast password

I had to change my password when my comcast e-mail account was hacked.  My Apple Mail 9 on Mac OS X (El Capitan) no longer works, even though the password change came through fine on my Android devices.  Web mail works.  Mac Book won't recognize new password with email address.  Any ideas?

In OS X you need to change the password in two places:  once for the incoming server, and again for the outgoing smtp server.  Did you do that?  If not, look at these instructions I found.  I am using Yosemite, but I would think the prodedure is pretty much the same in El Capitan--------------------------

 

 

 

 

 

Changing Password for SMTP Server in Mail 8.2 (Yosemite)

 

Enabling (SMTP AUTH)

 

Open Mail.app.

Go to Mail > Preferences

Click Accounts > Account Information

Under Account Information look for Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP).

Click on the drop down arrow and select Edit Server List...

Select the existing SMTP server for your domain.

Click Advanced

From the Authentication drop down, select Password

Fill in your Username (e.g. john@example.com) and Password

Click the Test Account Settings button to set the new settings.

Click OK and then close the preferences window.

Click Next then Finish.

Save the changes, and try sending mail again

Password for both incoming and outgoing servers are entered.  Outgoing mail is showing Offline and I cannot change it.  Still asking for passwords everytime I try to do something.  Talked to Comcast yesterday 3pm  they were supposed to call me back in a couple hours because Help Desk was stumped - none of the rote solutions have worked.  It is clearly a communications problem between my MacBook (El Capitan) which doesn't have the same command options as Yosemite. It is most definitely an Apple/Comcast communication problem and is making me crazy!
