I just purchased an Arris router and modem at Best Buy.  I returned my comcast modem to the store.  However, it seems that my home phone line is not working .  Please advise.

The modem that you purchased doesn't have a phone port output for your phone to work, like the one that you returned.

See https://mydeviceinfo.xfinity.com/customerinfo and check the "Voice/Telephone enabled" box to view compatible devices.

You can use non-voice devices for a third party phone service like Vonage or Ooma, but not for Comcast's phone service.

As ComcastAndrew stated, the 6190 is not an eMTA so it doesn't support their phone service.
