I already have a new netgear 1900 modem I own and use for internet, I just added the triple play for father-in-law mainly for tv for him. My modem does not handle the phone and he would like it,  can I hook a second modem to the cable just to handle the phone?

If your are thinking about purchasing the voice capable, eMTA, cable modem then I would suggest you contact your local Comcast store to verify that the franchise that services your area does allow customers to own their own voice/eMTA device as I have heard that some franchises require you to rent the voice capable modem.

I would also verify with your Comcast store that they do allow the use of two modems at one location where one is provisioned for internet service while the second one is provisioned only for the voice, eMTA, functionality.

Hope this helps you out.
