Based on Comcast website and verifying compatibiliity, purchased voice modem ARRIS SVG2482AC.  Comcast technical support cannot get phone to work and claims that the modem, built by Arris specifically for Comcast and on Comcast website compatibility verification page, is not compatible, Cannot receive any assistance from Technical Support.  Have others been told the same?

See this thread:

http://forums.xfinity.com/t5/Your-Home-Network/CAN-I-USE-MY-OWN-MODEM/td-p/2881741

Per Apple1234567's posts, it sounds like, to get that 2482AC activated, the Comcast/Xfinity Store Reps had to tell the computer/system the model is an owned TG862G, and then provide the MAC addresses of the actual 2482AC, and it will work

At least that is what I deduced. Doesn't seem that Comcast's Back End Provisioning systems are quite ready for the 2482AC, despite the device already being sold by Arris and on the Comcast Approved Device list @ http://mydeviceinfo.xfinity.com

I bought this modem to replace the rented Comcast Xfinity Arris TG1682. The SVG2482AC is most likely just the retail version of the TG1682. When I loaded the modem web access link into my browser the modem started the Xfinity self activation and after restarting was up and running on the Comcast network.. I know others have had problems getting it activated.  I'm in San Jose, CA and did not have any problems.

I also upgraded to this "supported" device and customer service could not activate it. They are saying it could take two days due to escalation but that sounds like wishful thinking. Looks like Im going to be w/o internet for a while.

The SVG2482 is not in the provisioning system yet, which is why it isn't listed here yet: http://forums.xfinity.com/t5/Service-Equipment/How-to-purchase-and-install-a-voice-modem/m-p/2632277...

Comcast is aware of the issue. They did not have an ETA for me when it will be ready to go.

Thanks for the update on the provisioning issue.

I'm wondering if the reason my SVG2482 has worked is because I was replacing a TG1682 and the system just used the TG1682's information?

According to the tech guys, it shouldn't work at all w/o the right boot file. I won't tell anyone if you don't Smiley Wink

After 3 weeks dealing with Comcast and waiting, the installation issues are now resolved.
However, I am now experiencing a slow transfer rate and poor range coverage. As a workaround I added a tp link Router in access point mode and now issues went away.
I am calling Arris next week to see what they can do to resolve the issues.

So are you saying that IF I purchase this ARRIS SVG2482AC that it will NOW have NO issues on my comcast/xfinity network?  Phone and internet will work to it's FULL capacity? That ALL previous issues that I have read on this forum have been solved?
