using the phone

i just got comcast voice services in new home.   i had verizon in previous house and plugged wireless and corded phones into phone jacks all over the house.  wireless phone didn't work when i plugged it into wall jack in new home,  but it did work when i plugged it into the modem.  Please excuse me if this is a stupid question, but can i not use phone jack outlets like i did with verizon in the old house?  can i only use a wireless phone plugged into the modem?  Thanks.  sandy

Re: using the phone

Yes, you can use your inside phone jacks.  The phone jack from the telephony modem must be connected to your inside phone wiring.  This is called backfeeding.  The inside wiring in the home must be disconnected from the local telephone companies network interface box on the side of the house, and the Comcast modem connects to a inside phone jack in one of the rooms, and if all the inside wiring is in place and connected properly, will feed all the jacks in the home.

Google :voip backfeeding - inside wiring" to find more details.
