Can Comcast identify the owner of a number for me that is being placed from my home? I cannot get thru, seems like a fax machine when dialed. Would like to know who or what the number belongs to.

Do you have a FAX machine trying to connect to the other FAX?

Do you have a Dialup Modem trying to dial out to some place like AOL  or Netzero?

First troubleshooting step would be to see if one of your computers has an internal dialup modem with a phone cable going to a phone jack.

If so, then open up the browser on that computer and click Tool, Internet Options, Connections and put a check in the box besice "Never Dial a Connection"

I answered this for someone else last week, it could be a Tivo or water meter that dials into report the usage.
