How do we overcome this?  While there is no fax attached to our phone line, we are hearing a fax click in and out of the phone call, and then it begin dialing, and submits a fax sound.

 

Any suggestions

Sounds like you do have a fax connected to your phone line. Do you have a computer with a fax modem connected? Some printers also have fax.

no printers are connected to the phone.  Our printer  works  via the  home wireless  network.  Any other suggestions?

Also, there of our printers are connected wirelessly.  I believe that our comcast phone system, though using the same modem as the internet, appear to be separate functions.

There are other modem type devices in some homes like a water meter that dials in to report it's meter reading, Tivo, especially older models, dial out to get their guide data, and some alarm systems.  They sound just like a fax when it's dialing out.
