I want to purchase my own modem for voice and net to replace the tc8305c.  What models/brands are compatable?

You must purchase only those models that Comcast allows on the network or they will not activate it.   You can find the devices here:  http://mydeviceinfo.comcast.net/

In recent months they've become extremely picky about devices purchased for use with Voice service. Not only do they need to be, as stated, on the Approved list as a Voice or Telephony device, they must also have a check mark in the Retail column.

 

At the moment the only device on the list that meets all the requirements is the TG862G (Retail) gateway.
