My husband set up a new modem and now we have no phone line.

Had an existing phone modem in place - phone worked perfect.  Upgraded to new technicolor wireless router/ phone modem but no dial tone.  Internet works fine.  Did a self activation, system says internet and phone active.  Over a 2 day period called tech support multiple times, each time 20 to 30 minutes doing what tech support asked. They end call saying phone should have dial tone in about 5 minutes.  Still no phone service, after pressing reset button, unplugging, checking cables, etc.

I had exact same problem.

 

what fixed it for me. Reset the modem using a paper clip or pen and push it through the "reset" hole in the back of the modem. Note that all lights should go out for a second and then resart.

 

Also note: unplugging the power DOES NOT reset the modem, you must use the reset option I described above.
