Welcome to the Forum.  Sorry you are having difficulty.

Two things you can do for starters

  1. Reset the Modem.  (Reset switch is in a small hoe on the back of the modem.  Use a paperclip or a ballpoing pen to depress the switch.  Hold until all lights go out except the power light)
  2. Plug a test phone into the jack on the back of the modem  L1 and see if you get dial tone
