Xfinity voice/home alarm with Motorola SB6120

Xfinity voice/home alarm with Motorola SB6120

I just replaced the Comcast cable modem with a Motorola SB6120. However, since the Motorola is not able to connect to the Xfinity voice service, I can't activate my land line and hence my home alarm system with ADT.

Any suggestions on how to get around this?

Thanks

Re: Xfinity voice/home alarm with Motorola SB6120

If you have Comcast Digital Voice you must use a eMTA telephony modem.  Using a 6120 will not supply you with any dial tone, only HSI.

You ether need to continue to rent a eMTA telephony modem from Comcast, or in some markets, purchase an Arris TM722G eMTA for $150 plus installation from select Best Buy's with Comcast Connection Centers in them.  Not all Comcast markets are included in these customer owned eMTA's.  A list of Connection Centers is at this LINK.

You also have the option to go to your ILEC telephone company to supply you with a dial tone, or switch your alarm panel over to a wireless solution from your alarm company.

How does the Arris TM722G compare to the 6120? Also, what does ILEC stand for? Thanks

Re: Xfinity voice/home alarm with Motorola SB6120

The Arris TM722G is a D3 eMTA and the only one that can be purchased for using with CDV.  That would be the right unit to use if you wanted to keep CDV or triple play.

ILEC means the incumbent local exchange carrier, your local landline phone company.
