Who owns their eMTA (voice modem)?

Who owns their eMTA (voice modem)?

I have the Arris TG862G that I am paying $8/month for.  I see them refurbished on Ebay for around $80.  Just curious how many of you have bought this eMTA (either new or used) and if so, were there any issues getting it up and running?

The first thing you should do is to call in or go to your local CC service center (the better choice) and inquire / confirm as to whether or not customer owned eMTA's (modems with phone support) are allowed to be used on the local system. Some local franchises still do not allow it and require you to rent one from CC.

The personnel that work there seem to better know what the actual local franchise's policies really are than do support reps at the national 800 number.

If allowed, here is a very good current tech eMTA;

Be sure to purchase brand new out of the box modems from reputable retailers only !! <<<<<<<<<<<<

Here is a phone number for activating customer owned eMTA's;

I agree with previous reply about buying ONLY brand new in manufacturer's sealed box.  There are many stories about used modems being previously used on Comcast, but never unregisterd (usually stolen).  Comcast will NOT activate that modem.

Sorry to be picky, but wouldn't something like "brand new in the original box" be more appropriate than "out of the box"? "Out of the box" sounds to me like an open-box item, which I'm pretty sure is not what you mean.   ;-)

Yes. Thanks Bruce ! A PM would have worked for this.
