I cannot get the "New VoiceMail" display off my phone even though I do not have any voice mails.

In their Xfinity Connect email, try bringing up Preferences / Voice at https://pf.connect.comcast.net/OptimusPref/prefs/voice, and then clicking "Message Wait Indicator", and then "Refresh".

Bruce's instruction is perfect.... however you can also call your number from a cellphone for instance, leave a VM, then retireve the new VZM and delete it.  The Indicator should go away after you delete the new VM.
