I had comcast delete my voicemail over a year ago and now for no reason I am getting a voicemail message indicator. I can reset my phone but the indicator comes back. I have confirmed it is comcast and not the phone by disconnecting the phone and the indicator never comes on. But as soon as I reconnect the phone line the indicator comes on. I reset the modem but made no difference. Don't tell me to pull the battery on the phone or power down/up as I've already done that and made no difference. Don't tell me to reset my computer as it has nothing to do with the problem. The phone has the capability to reset the VMWI and I have done that repeatedly but the VMWI returns and the LED on the phone lights and the audible indicator is there prior to hearing the dial tone.
Let me reiterate, I DO NOT HAVE VOICEMAIL. I do not want comcast voicemail under any circumstances. There is no reason for the VMWI to be active. I need comcast to reset the indicator and remove it.
Let me repeat. I had comcast cancel my voicemail last year. I do not have voicemail, I do not have any voicemail messages. But the VMWI is on on all my phones. Comcast needs to remove the VMWI from my phone line. I have 3 different types of phones and all are indicating VMWI.
This fix worked for me. You will need a cell phone or have a friend call you.
We have an external voice mail system we use so the only time we get
voice mail messages is when we are on the line.
1. Pick up your phone and get a dial tone.
2. With a cell phone call your comcast number and your call will go directly to voice mail.
3. Leave a message on your comcast phone.
(You now really have a message.)
4. Retrieve your comcast message and then delete it. Star 99
Thanks, this worked for me as well.
Interesting how spending 15 minutes using Google is faster than both trying to call customer service AND their online chat.
Thank you for this steps. I was going crazy trying to figured out how to fix this. It was easy/quick to search and find this. Again thank you very much. Problem fixed.
As previously discussed in other posts, leave yourself a voicemail message, then retrieve and delete it.
BEFORE hanging up, ALWAYS back out of the system using the * star key until the system says "goodbye".
Outdoor Guy, did you ever figure out another way to fix it? I have also not been able to eliminate the VM indicator on my phone. I followed instructions in this thread, but it's still happening.
