Voice/Data Modem Rental

Voice/Data Modem Rental

Can a Voice/Data Modem be purchased so I would not have to pay the monthly $ 10 fee? If so what kinds are compatible?

Re: Voice/Data Modem Rental

Arris Modems 700 series or higher are ideal.

The Arris 850's are Wireless Gateways with Phone, Internet, Home Networking wired and Wireless Build in.

I just purchased a new one with the back up battery included for $96 at ownyourmodem.com

It will pay for itself in less than a year and over five years save about $500 considering Comcast raises the cost of its modems every other year.

As a footnote just six years ago similar modems were leased for $3 per month.

Also Visually Impared (USA) or over 65 (in Massachusetts) can ask for the directory assistance exemption form for no charge 411 service.

You need to check with your local Comcast office and see if the local franchise allows you to purchase and use your own modem or not.  Each franchise can have different rues.

If it is allowed, then look at http://mydeviceinfo.comcast.net/ for the list of Comcast supported modems.

You need an EMTA modem to support phone capability.

I suggest the Arris TM822G
