Upgrade modem letter

Upgrade modem letter

We have Triple Play with Blast! internet tier, and currently have a Xoom modem (purchased and own outright) for internet and an Arris TM502G modem (rented from Comcast) for telephone.

I received the "time to upgrade your modem" letter the other day, and promptly went online and requested the self-install kit.  I assumed that the modem was intended to replace our our telephone modem, since that is a Docsis 2.0 while our Xoom is a Docsis 3.0.  However, after opening the box I see that the modem they sent me is a telephone/internet/wireless router combo.  I'm scared to swap this one with my old Arris for fear that they'll start charging me a double rental fee.  Interestingly enough, I logged onto My Equipment page today and my xoom modem is not listed...only my old (replaced years ago) Docsis 1.0 modem, our current telephone modem, and the new modem that I jsut received.

Has anyone had any issues in this situation?

Re: Upgrade modem letter

Just send the new modem back. You don't need to upgrade your Arris modem if it's just providing telephone service. Continue to use your Zoom for internet service.
