Unable to set up voicemail

Unable to set up voicemail

Trying to set up voicemail. When I dial *99, to initiate set up, get this message: "The mailbox number you're trying to reach is not in service."  Yet when I call my home phone from my cell, the the home phone rings...waited through 7 rings to see what happened.  Nothing.  Now what?!
