Transfer of VOIP phone number

Transfer of VOIP phone number

We have recently moved. We have returned Comcast equipment in person at a support center.

Comcast does not provide service to our apartment building.

Comcast refuses to transfer our phone number to our new provider (DirectV).

Does anyone have any ideas how we can get Comcast's attention so that we can transfer our old phone number to the new provider?

Our only recourse at this point is to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and with the Public Utilities Agency of the State of Minnesota.

You can normally only port numbers that are still in service.  Which means you need to port the number before cutting off service.

When porting a number you need to tell the company starting the service to port the number, not the old company.

We requested porting and Comcast shows that the number is still active. But Comcast refuses to port the number to the new service. We have never cancelled our phone number. The problem is clearly at Comcast as far as I can tell. But as I said, they refuse to release the number to the new service. This has been over a month.

We did that. A porting form was provided by the new service which we completed and returned over a month ago. Comcast refuses to release the number to the new service.
