Switch from AT&T - disconnect outside tele wiring?

Switch from AT&T - disconnect outside tele wiring?

This weekend I pulled the trigger and arranged for Comcast HSI, voice and HD TV.  I currently have AT&T phone service.  I was told it would take a week or so to port my current phone number over to Comcast.  Is there anything else that needs to be done?  I have heard that you need to have your phone line wiring disconnected on the outside if you want to use your inside telephone wiring, but I live in an apartment and do not have access to the AT&T equipment where this is.  Is that something that Comcast will arrange to have done, or does it even need to be done?

Thanks.

You can always bypass the apartment wiring and plug a phone directly in the back of the modem in line 1

Yea, I know I can do that, but I would prefer to keep the "home base" for my phone system where it is now, which is not where the modem will be installed.

In a lot of apartments the actual phone nid is in the apartment, take a look in laundry area or master bedroom closet for a blank wall plate or ask your management
