Phone cuts out

Phone cuts out

When I call out, or someone calls in the person on the other end of the phone can't hear us from time to time.  It usually lasts about 10-15 seconds, then they can hear us again.  We can still hear the caller, but they can not hear us.  After about 3 or 4 times during a call the call will drop.

What can I do to fix this?

Re: Phone cuts out

First, reset your EMTA Comcast telephone adapter by pressing the small indented button on  the panel where the cables attached.  You will need some kind of poker like a paper clip, tooth pick etc.  Give it a few minutes to reset and test your connection.

Next, test by unhooking your existing phones and house wiring, and test using a known good wired telephone.  New cheap wired phones can be found at big box dept, electronic and home improvement stores.

If your using cordless phone, there could be interference from the cordless base to the handset dropping your call, or the phone is failing.

Finally, if none of that works, contact Comcast support for help, they can see your system logs and stats, and determine the next action, if equipment needs replaceing or if it is a signal issue with your cabling.

They might need to send out a tech to fix you up.

Re: Phone cuts out

We had the same issue.  See my post dated 9/1/2010 regarding the $30 fee.  They were able to fix it, but charged us for it.  I believe they had to do something outside the house to fix it.  But I would definitely try what the previous poster recommended before you call it in.
